What is Carbon Steel Casting?

Carbon steel casting refers to the process of producing carbon steel castings using the casting process. Carbon steel is an iron-carbon alloy containing 0.02%-2.11% carbon, with good weldability, corrosion resistance, strength and wear resistance. It is widely used in machinery manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, petrochemical and chemical industries.

Advantages of Carbon Steel Casting

01.  Low cost
02. Short production cycle
03.  High strength and good toughness
04.  Can withstand high pressure
05.  Strong corrosion and abrasion resistance
06.  High stability and safety
07.  Can casting high load and complex working conditions of the components

Common Carbon Steel Casting Materials

Precision-cast in a wide range of AISI/SAE grades — each engineered for specific mechanical requirements and applications. Browse our comprehensive alloy selection below.

1018

Low Carbon / Mild Steel

Strong, ductile, excellent weldability and machinability. Surface hardenable via carburizing.

Crimping, bending, swaging components, worms, pins, gears, dowels, tool holders, machine parts, pinions, ratchets.

1020

Low Carbon Steel

Good surface hardening capability, excellent weldability and formability. Higher strength than 1018. Responds well to case hardening.

Hydraulic shafts, motor shafts, pump shafts, machinery parts, structural tubing, automotive components, light duty gears.

1030

Medium Carbon Steel

Moderate hardness and strength, machinable, ductile. Heat treatable (quenched & tempered) for increased strength. Good balance of properties.

Machinery parts, tempered & quenched components, automotive structural parts, couplings, shafts, gears, connecting rods.

1035

Medium Carbon Steel

Higher tensile strength than 1030, good wear resistance, responds well to heat treatment. Improved hardness with moderate ductility.

Crankshafts, connecting rods, heavy-duty forgings, agricultural implements, bolts, shafts, industrial machinery.

1040

Medium Carbon Steel

Balanced strength and ductility, excellent through-hardening capability. Good wear resistance after heat treatment.

Wheels, shafts, bolting, farm equipment components, forged connecting rods, structural parts, machinery bases.

1045

Medium Carbon Steel

High strength, excellent wear resistance, good toughness when heat treated. Most widely used medium carbon grade.

Gears, rolls, rams, pins, shafts, axles, bolts, studs, hydraulic components, heavy-duty machinery, automotive transmission.

1050

High Carbon Steel

Increased hardness and edge retention, high strength, excellent spring properties after heat treatment.

Clutches, brakes, wear plates, agricultural tools, leaf springs, scrapers, cutting edges, high-wear components.

1060

High Carbon Steel

Very high strength, high hardness, exceptional wear and abrasion resistance after proper heat treatment.

Heavy-duty springs, strikers, high-strength wire components, heavy dies, railway components, wear-resistant parts.

1065

High Carbon Steel

Excellent spring properties, high fatigue resistance, good hardenability. Maintains strength under cyclic loading.

Leaf springs, coil springs, high-stress retaining rings, suspension components, agricultural spring tines.

1144

Stressproof® / Medium Carbon

Free-machining, high strength (as-rolled), excellent fatigue resistance. Minimal distortion after machining. Superior surface finish.

High-speed CNC parts, shafts, axles, precision machine components, hydraulic rods, pump shafts, industrial rollers.

11L14

Lead-enhanced Low Carbon

Lead-enhanced for superior machinability, excellent chip breakage, high production rates. Not recommended for welding.

Complex small parts, fittings, fasteners, high-volume turned components, screw machine products, intricate cast-then-machined parts.

12L14

Free-Machining Low Carbon

Excellent machinability (best among low carbon grades), leaded for high-speed operations, good surface finish.

Precision hydraulic fittings, couplings, intricate small components, electrical connectors, plumbing fittings, high-volume precision parts.

WCB

Cast Carbon Steel (ASTM A216)

Standard grade for general-purpose cast carbon steel. Excellent weldability, good pressure containment, moderate strength. Designed for elevated temperature service.

Valve bodies, pump casings, flanges, fittings, pressure-containing components, industrial equipment, marine hardware.

Additional custom alloys and modified chemistries available upon request. Full material traceability & spectrometer testing per heat. Contact our engineers for assistance selecting the optimal grade for your application.
